UP Education campuses join in on Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day (19 May, 2023) is in full swing at UP Education campuses across the country.

Students and staff at NZMA, Yoobee College of Creative of Innovation, Cut Above Academy, Elite School of Beauty and Spa, New Zealand School of Tourism and University of Auckland International College have formed a sea of pink, in support of the movement.

Aotearoa’s Pink Shirt Day is about stamping out bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion.

As well as donning all sorts of pink clothing items from t-shirts to robes and fairy wings, students had the opportunity to participate in all sorts of Pink Shirt Day activities.

Elite School of Spa and Beauty students enjoyed a self-love class where they investigated what self-love meant, took part in yoga activities and spoke about how the idea of self-love is at the core of spa and beauty treatments.

New Zealand School of Tourism students wrote words of affirmation and stuck them up around the classroom. Students say the idea behind the project was to write something they wish they could tell their younger self.

Morning classes and assessments were followed by a shared lunch where students who had birthdays in the coming months were celebrated.

For one tourism class there was an extra reason to celebrate as a student had just received a call from Qantas offering her a role.

Staff and tutors also took the chance to get involved, with everyone sporting a pink shirt.
