Empowering Young Women to be Leaders

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and Auckland University of Technology (AUT) have identified engagement and collaboration with local business leaders as an ideal learning experience for young students.

With this in mind, NZMA General Manager Monique Le Marque was approached by the TEC, to be shadowed by two Onehunga High School students and another from AUT, who is in the last year of her Bachelor of Business, majoring in Economics and Finance.

Monique spent time with the students, and spoke to them about the importance of good leadership and clarity of vision, alongside her own personal work journey.  Monique said, “The first step to leadership is leadership of self. Truly great leaders practice the behaviour they wish others to emulate.  It’s perfectly fine to do things differently from everyone else – there is strength in diversity.  Most importantly strive for authenticity over perfection”.

NZMA supports and empowers female students through their education journey which then opens up options for sustainable employment.
