Student Services

Care and support for all students

UP Education provides for the educational needs and welfare of each student.

Services on offer

  • The tutor system

Each Foundation student  is assigned a tutor to supervise their study and provide individual guidance. As part of the learning support, student and tutor meet regularly to reflect on progress, celebrate success and overcome any challenges. Students are encouraged to develop good study habits and benefit from personalised support, to ensure they reach their  goals.

  • Parent website and community portal

If your son or daughter is enrolled in a pathway programme, you will be kept informed about their learning progress through our parent portal.  This is a website and community portal, where parents and caregivers can find a range of information about programmes, schedules and events. It also helps parents stay up-to-date with progress.

A unique login and password allows access into a secure site for personal information including accommodation details, daily timetables, attendance records and assessment results.

View academic reports, check coverage and expiry dates of medical and travel insurance policies, and access student visa permit numbers and expiry dates.

  • Settling into study

Upon arrival, a thorough orientation programme helps international students to settle in. As part of orientation, students are given an information handbook that includes homestay and accommodation guidelines.
Students enrolling in English School or university foundation programmes, are provided with an iPad free of charge for the duration of their course. A complete set of course materials is available on the iPad.

  • Sonder Student Safety app

    Sonder

We have partnered with Sonder, a 24/7 personal safety and wellbeing service, to support all our international students. The Sonder app is for personal devices and has a number of features, like “Track My Journey” and “Check On Me”, that will help students live and study in New Zealand with confidence – if you are walking alone at night, going on a first date, or meeting up with a stranger to buy or sell goods, for example.

Additionally, if you are feeling stressed, anxious, lonely or simply don’t know who to turn to, you can speak to Sonder’s multilingual support team anytime via live chat or phone, and they can even send in-person assistance if you need it.

Students will receive an activation email or text shortly before orientation. If they don’t get an email or text, they will be given a code to use at orientation.
